What is a Veranda and and why are they so much in demand?
A Veranda can be defined as an open-air porch which tends to be attached to the outside of a building. Sometimes verandas are ornate with intricate wrought iron work, for example those on some of the more traditional houses in New Orleans, whereas they can also be more modern in design.
What is the difference between a Veranda and a Patio Canopy?
Verandas (or verandahs) are a more luxurious version of a patio canopy, although they can both be used for similar functions. Verandas have the advantage of being able to be fully enclosed with the sides and front being filled with either fixed panels or sliding doors, making Verandas usable all year round.
Verandas also tend to be made from stronger materials meaning they can span a longer distance between uprights (legs) giving you have a more uninterrupted view of your garden compared to a Patio Canopy. The number of legs you need will depend on whether you have a glass roof or a polycarbonate one. Further details can be found here (scroll down the page and click on the “Canopy Legs” tab).
Finally, because Verandas tend to be structurally very robust they lend themselves to having glass roofs as well as polycarbonate ones. A glass roof gives that wow factor and is great for viewing the stars on summer nights.
What types of modern verandas are there?
Virtually all modern Verandas are made from structural aluminium powdercoated in a choice of White or Anthracite Grey finishes. Other colours can be supplied subject to a small extra cost.
The veranda can be attached to the wall of your home (Lean to) or if this is not possible it can be supplied Free Standing. Modern verandas tend to come with an integral gutter where the gutter is built into the eaves beam and the water runs down the legs giving clean lines and a more professional finish. The roof can either be glazed with 16mm polycarbonate multiwall sheeting in clear, opal or bronze tints or 8.8mm laminated glass with a clear or grey tint.
Will a Veranda suit my home?
If you have the space, a Veranda is a superb addition to your home giving an outdoor space which can either be enclosed or left open. A Veranda adds both style and function to your home and helps you enjoy more of your outdoor space. As Verandas are made of high-quality materials, they add value to your home and will become a space you use over and over again, giving you many years of enjoyment.
