What is a GRP door canopy and how is it made?

GRP door canopies are both lightweight and durable and are made from glass reinforced polyester (fibreglass.) This makes them a simple and long lasting solution. The process involved in the manufacturing of a fibreglass grp door canopy begins with the making of a wooden mould. This mould replicates the external look of the GRP canopy and allows for distinctive design elements that add a realistic feel to the final product. The mould is then layered with a mixture of resin and sheets of glass fibre which bond to produce a very strong finished door canopy.

After curing, the product is removed from the mould, polished and painted. The strength of the fibreglass allows for large canopies to be produced as a single item without the need for parts to be bonded together. This not only makes the finished GRP canopies stronger, but more aesthetically pleasing. Brackets can be manufactured separately and mechanically fixed onto the main canopy.
